The Shifting Role of L&D in Today's Marketplace

The Shifting Role of L&D in Today’s Marketplace was a Roundtable Conversation that took place on Aug 17, 2022.

The event was intended as forum for thoughtful conversation about how L&D Leaders and organizations can be successful within the current context.

Learning & Development is often framed as a core way to build a leadership bench or as a retention strategy for quality talent. Now, with the combination of the Great Resignation, inflation, and economic uncertainty, organizations need to be even more innovative in how they attract, grow, and retain their future leaders. L&D has a spot on center stage.

Given this unique environment, the incredible momentum behind the great resignation and current and shifting economic realities, what does that mean for L&D? How do we attract, hold onto, and develop our employees? That and more are questions we discussed with the panelists and attendees.

In this conversation with L&D leaders, we discussed new ways of thinking about L&D as a strategic part of long-term leadership and succession planning for your organization.

We tackled these questions:

  • What is a top strategic priority of L&D in today’s marketplace, and what trend is driving that?

  • What can L&D leaders do to create an environment where burnout doesn’t contribute to attrition?

  • What takeaway have you learned about how to engage and inspire people in the last 12 months?

  • What skills should L&D teach so that leaders can better engage and inspire their teams?

  • How will L&D look in 10 years

Additional input was also collected from roundtable audience members via a digital survey after the event. These insights have been included in this summary as well.
